Your official DPS road test in your own vehicle at any of our four locations.
VIP Road Test — $140
Recommended. Includes a FREE retake if you don’t pass (a $40 value, included free), plus extra prep and a focus on parallel parking so you’re ready the first time.
Use of our vehicle — $20
No car to test in? Use one of our vehicles for your road test for a small added fee.
Road test retake — $40
Need another attempt? Retakes are $40 — or free with the VIP option. No extra fees for weekend testing.
What to bring by age
Requirements vary by age. Here’s the general checklist — confirm specifics with your examiner.
Ages 16–17
Your Driver Education certificate (DE-964 or PTDE-964), a valid learner license held at least 6 months, your ITTD certificate (valid 90 days), photo ID, and your logged parent-supervised driving hours.
Ages 18–24
Your 6-hour adult drivers ed certificate (ADE-1317), your ITAD certificate, a valid learner license or permit, and photo ID.
Ages 25+
No driver education course is required — bring a valid learner license or permit and photo ID, and come ready to test.
DPS road test questions, answered
How much does the road test cost?
The Basic road test in your own vehicle is $100. The VIP option is $140 and includes a free retake and extra prep. Using our vehicle adds $20, and a standalone retake is $40.
Do I need my own car?
No. You can test in your own vehicle, or use one of ours for an added $20. Any test vehicle must be registered, insured, and in safe working order.
What’s the VIP road test?
Our recommended option ($140). It includes a free retake if you don’t pass (normally $40), plus extra preparation with a focus on parallel parking so you’re ready the first time.
Where are you located?
We offer road tests at our Carrollton, Greenville, Richardson, and Tyler locations, seven days a week — with no extra fee for weekend testing.
Are you DPS-authorized?
Yes. Our examiners are authorized third-party testers, so your skills test counts the same as one taken at the DPS — without the long wait.
Will you submit my paperwork to DPS?
At most locations, yes — we submit for you so you don’t have to return to the DPS, and your license is mailed to you. This complimentary service isn’t available at the Tyler location, and it requires a valid (non-temporary) license with an Audit Number that isn’t expiring within six months.
Do I need a Texas.gov (TxT) account?
Yes, for the DPS submission service. A Texas.gov TxT account is required so your license can be mailed to you and you can print a temporary license from your account.
What forms do I need?
Adults complete a DL-14A and teens a DL-14B. Bring these along with your education certificates, learner license or permit, and photo ID.
What if I have a pending DPS appointment?
You must not have a pending appointment with the Texas DPS, as pending appointments cause problems with our submissions. Cancel it before testing with us.
What if I don’t pass?
You can retake the test for $40 — or free if you chose the VIP option. Check with your examiner so your next attempt goes smoothly.
