Who can take the adult drivers ed course?
Anyone 18 or older who wants a Texas driver license can take the 6-hour adult course. Teens 14 to 17 should take the teen or parent-taught course instead.

Do I need this if I’m 25 or older?
Texas requires the six-hour course for first-time applicants ages 18 to 24. At 25 or older you’re not required to take it, but you still must pass the written and driving tests.
What do I do after I finish?
With both your ITAD and ADE-1317 certificates, schedule your DPS exam (driving and vision test). To skip DPS wait times, take a DPS-authorized road test at one of our Texas locations.

Does defensive driving count as adult drivers ed?
No. Defensive driving and drug-and-alcohol courses are separate and won’t qualify you for a license — only an adult (or teen) driver education course does.
