Online Drivers Ed FAQ
Online Drivers Ed in Texas: Common Questions
Can you take drivers ed online in Texas?
Yes. Texas allows both teen and adult drivers ed to be completed online through a course approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). Easy Drivers Ed is TDLR-approved (course #C3252), and our certificates are accepted at every DPS driver license office.
How long does online drivers ed take in Texas?
The adult course is 6 hours and most students finish in a day. The teen parent-taught course is 24 hours of instruction; the first 6 hours qualify you for your learner license, and you finish the rest at your own pace.
Can I take the permit test online?
Yes. The knowledge test is built into our course, so you can take it at home instead of at the DPS office. You still visit DPS for the vision test and to receive your license.
How much does online drivers ed cost in Texas?
Adult drivers ed is $39.95 and teen parent-taught drivers ed is $64.95. Each price covers the whole course, including the knowledge test and a printable certificate.
Do adults need drivers ed in Texas?
Adults 18 to 24 must complete a 6-hour adult driver education course before getting a first license. It is optional at 25 and older, but many adults take it because it includes the knowledge test.
What do I do after I finish drivers ed online?
Download your certificate, complete the free DPS impact video (ITTD for teens, ITAD for adults), book a DPS appointment, and pass your driving test. Our guide to what to do after completing drivers ed online walks through each step.
Is online drivers ed easier than a classroom course?
It covers the same state-required material, but you work at your own pace on any device, with short videos and open-book quizzes instead of fixed class times.
